Dave Pittman ‘Different Kind of Love’ Review

Dave Pittman
Different Kind of Love
(Independent)

The world caught its first glimpse of Dave Pittman on the ninth season of American Idol, followed by the debut project Crazy Brave, a fitting description of his inspiring circumstances coined by guest judge Neil Patrick Harris. It turns out the soulful pop singer suffers from Tourette Syndrome and even went so far as to contemplate suicide over the constant bullying he faced at a mere 10-years-old, but stopped short of pulling the trigger of his father’s gun when his parents suddenly returned home from an errand.

Jump ahead to adulthood, and Pittman is readying his second record while sharing that testimony in speaking engagements all across the country. Perhaps it’s no surprise that the project overflows with messages of placing full reliance on the Lord in a variety of circumstances—all from either his personal pen or the reliable likes of Selah’s Todd Smith, Benji Cowart, Daniel Doss and others, plus the hymn “I’d Rather Have Jesus.” Along with his smooth vocals and the uncluttered contemporary production, it’s a worthwhile combination for both core Christian music fans and those simply looking to be uplifted by an artist who is, indeed, “crazy brave.”
