Former Downhere Co-Frontman Jason Germain Records New Song
It’s been 8 years since contemporary Christian rock band Downhere ended their public ministry. While one of their co-frontmen, Marc Martel, has been very busy with a full load of solo projects, the other vocalist, Jason Germain, has been radio silent. Having switched exclusively to the production side of music, listeners haven’t heard Germain’s signature deep vocals since the final notes of “Reveal The Kingdom” closed out Downhere’s final album. Until now. On Easter Sunday evening, Germain posted a lyric video to Facebook of a brand new Easter song he recorded with the church band for Stonebridge Bible Church. The song, possibly titled “He Is Alive,” although not explicitly named…

Psalm And H.U.R.T. Release New Single
Psalm has teamed up with California-native CHH artist H.U.R.T. to deliver an aggressively transparent commentary on the modern-day church institution. The song, titled ‘Down We Go’, is the fifth single to be released from Psalm’s 10-track LP Hero’s Lament. It is delivered over a progressive instrumental produced by J. Nihilo. The apathy, complacency, and compromise of God’s people has caused God’s word to become corroded and watered down. It has allowed a very real enemy to infiltrate the faith. Psalm and H.U.R.T.’s record address these issues with a straightforward and unapologetic approach. Check the lyric video for the new song below![…]

As worship is moving from the sanctuary to the living room in this quarantine season, songs of substance and simple arrangements are…

How to Stay in Love with God
A few years ago, we sat with a younger couple over dessert — listening to their lives, learning them. Fifteen years and six kids separated us (they had none). Epic Poetry: Learning to Read–and Enjoy–It in 5 Steps
Epic Poetry in School Do you remember reading (or being assigned to read) one of the following in school? The IliadThe OdysseyThe AeneidBeowulfYour teacher might even have assigned something like Longfellow’s The Song of Hiawatha or Evangeline. Perhaps you read Whittier’s Snowbound. Are you shuddering yet? Unfortunately, these lovely epic poems are often presented in school as follows: a fair-to-middlin’ introduction on the importance of said poem, a schedule of reading assignments, frequent comprehension quizzes, and analyzing the poem “to the pain” for its allusions, literary style, poetic techniques, and themes. You, like me, may have assumed that epic poetry just wasn’t your thing, even if you love to read.…

Soul-Shaping Poetry: 2 Books for Teens and Adults
Soul-Shaping Poetry Have you ever stopped to think about how much poetry has shaped the Christian soul? Poetry is an intrinsic part of our worship services, whether through a responsive reading of a Psalm or the “singing of Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” Paul describes. Poetry occurs throughout Scripture, most notably in the Psalms, but it is not limited to the Psalms. Miriam and Moses pour forth poetry at the Red Sea, Mary praises the Lord in the Magnificat, Song of Solomon is a long love poem, Job is replete with poetry, and even the epistles contain poetry and hymns (most notably, Philippians 2). Throughout history, Christians have been pouring…
