Sounds like Teen Spirit: Brandon Lake & Phil Wickham’s Summer Worship Nights Review
Hi, I’m Macy — I’m 13 years old and live in Nashville, Tennessee. Worship music is a big part of my life, and Wednesday nights at youth group are some of my favorite times because of the music. When our worship leaders sing songs by Brandon Lake or Phil Wickham, it instantly takes you to another level of worship. The melodies and lyrics they’ve written make you want to lift your hands, jump up and down, and worship the Lord with all your heart.
So, when my mom told me that Summer Worship Nights was coming to Bridgestone Arena on July 20, I knew we had to go.
Let me just say: Brandon Lake is one of my absolute favorites. When you hear “Hard Fought Hallelujah” or “Gratitude” live, it sends a feeling of joy through your whole body. Just like Brandon sings, it makes you want to raise your hands a little higher. His voice is so powerful and full of conviction — you can feel how passionate he is about Jesus and about sharing that message with everyone there. Honestly, I believe Brandon Lake was made to do exactly what he did that night. He’s the best!
Phil Wickham was just as amazing. His voice is soothing and inspiring at the same time — like hearing the most compassionate, loving person you’ve ever met. He’s one of the greatest messengers of God’s mercy and grace. His song “Homesick for Heaven” made me think about the joy of one day being in heaven, and “The King Is in the Room” literally raised the roof. Just like Brandon, Phil has a calling to share God’s Word through music, and it shines through everything he does.
Watching Brandon and Phil together on stage was so fun. Their friendship is so genuine, and you can see how much they enjoy praising God side by side. They even started an Instagram page called @divinebromance and have merch to go with it! Seeing their bond makes me want to surround myself with like-minded Christian friends who encourage each other the same way.
One of the most powerful parts of the night came when Brandon led a prayer for people who didn’t yet know Christ as their Lord and Savior. He asked those of us who already know Jesus to hide our light-up bracelets, so the ones still shining would show who had just made that decision. And when he asked people to raise their hands if they had accepted Jesus — it was amazing to see so many go up across the whole arena. Over 17,000 people said that prayer together. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
The world today can feel heavy for kids my age. There’s a lot of anxiety, confusion, pressure on social media, and struggles with things like body image and identity. But during worship — when you’re singing loud, jumping around, and shouting praises to God — all of that just falls away. For a little while, you remember who really defines you, and that’s Jesus.
Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham are bright lights for the Lord, and their performance at Bridgestone Arena was one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had. I truly hope Summer Worship Nights comes back every year — I’ll be there!
