For All Seasons — Longing for A Deeper Conversation
by Matt Conner For most artists, the conversation with their fans is a one-sided attempt to communicate an experience or feeling with the release of some music—save for the occasional conversation at the merch table or out by the bus or van. For Centricity Worship band For All Seasons, it wasn’t enough to simply put out a new song or album. They wanted to really engage their fan base on a much deeper level. More Than Music is the resulting podcast, a way to not only explain the songwriting process for their latest singles but to also dive into the experiences and thought processes that gave rise to these songs…

A Strong Foundation
Getting cut from baseball was something I never saw coming. And looking back, I can see that it could’ve played out one of several ways. First possibility: I could have dropped out of college and spent my days lying around the house with my five lazy roommates, eating a sick amount of pizza and… The post A Strong Foundation appeared first on FaithGateway.

How to Help Your Child Engage with the Bible
My kids had Bibles — real, unillustrated ones with lots of small words on lots of thin pages — long before they learned to read. They were always the ICB translation, my favorite for young children, and they were pretty with sequins or glitter on the covers. We would sit down together in the… The post How to Help Your Child Engage with the Bible appeared first on FaithGateway.

The Books of the New Testament
Anyone who picks up the New Testament will find, if they give it a chance, that it is one of the most explosive books ever written. ~ N. T. Wright INTRODUCTION There is a massive difference between being familiar with something and understanding it. Having an acquaintance and building a deep friendship are radically different… The post The Books of the New Testament appeared first on FaithGateway.

Making Room for People’s Faults
Whenever she does something – it’s off. There’s one particular friend who can’t seem to do things exactly right. It’s as though when she buys me a gift, it’s the one color I dislike. When she says she’ll see me soon, she forgets because she “had to run more errands” and shows up 30 minutes late. When she’s trying to be thoughtful, it’s awkward. Now, issues like this would be fine as an isolated incident, but she always and repeatedly acts this way. I know her heart, but she lets me down – even though her intentions are good. It is easy for me to judge her. And, I have. Her wrong timing.…

Adding Positive Habits to your Life
Ah habits – some of them good and some of them not-so-good. Like it or not, our habits can have a significant impact on our success at work, our relationships and our overall health and well-being. What positive behaviors do you need to add to your regular routine in order to improve your life? Habits can be defined as repeated, nearly automatic actions and are typically triggered by contextual cues. For instance, buckling your seatbelt when you jump into the car or listening to the news while putting on your make-up. In order to begin a new habit, we not only want to choose the new behavior, but also choose…

Minimize the Madness
Is it just me, or does life seem a little crazier every day? One of the definitions of madness is a state of frenzied or chaotic activity. That seems to describe parts of my life and the lives I see around me pretty accurately these days. Schedules seem busier than ever, homes are crammed with the latest “stuff,” and all the things that are supposed to make life easier only seem to complicate it. I know it seems like a long time ago, but there was a time when the only phone to answer or think about was hanging on the wall of your kitchen. Now we can’t seem to…

Feb. 18 – CCM Books I Gotta Read
I love books. No, that doesn’t necessarily mean I read them. Ha! But I sure love to collect them. OK, OK — that used to be true. I’ve been reading a fair amount lately, and I realize that a lot of Christian artists have written legit books that need to be read. Here’s my list of books I’d like to read: When God Becomes Real by Brian Johnson The Bethel Music pioneer/frontman shares about his battles with anxiety. Praise Habit: Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi by David Crowder This is an old one where Crowder reflects on what worship truly means to him. The Mystery by…

It’s No Normal Friday
The bright noonday sun casts a common shadow for the Judean countryside. It’s the black silhouette of a shepherd standing near his fat-tailed flock. He stares at the clear sky, searching for clouds. There are none. He looks back at his sheep. They graze lazily on the rocky hillside. An occasional sycamore provides shade. He… The post It’s No Normal Friday appeared first on FaithGateway.

Why Does God Allow Me to Doubt?
Jude 22 says, Be merciful to those who doubt. But it raises the question: why would God allow us to doubt to begin with? Why does He allow us to wrestle with deep questions about life, prayer, theology, pain, and suffering? Why doesn’t he just clear the air, and give us the answers and evidence… The post Why Does God Allow Me to Doubt? appeared first on FaithGateway.
