Tapping into the Library
I was expecting it, and sure enough it happened: my local library and all its branches is shut down until March 31—and very likely beyond. Here I sit with about 18 books checked out, some of which I can enthusiastically recommend. But how will our readers get to read them? Overdrive to the rescue—sort of. I have heard of it, and I’ve noticed that my library offers certain books in electronic editions, but never bothered to download them. I don’t like reading on a screen and I don’t think it’s ideal for kids either. But if that’s the only way I can get hold of a book I really want…

Relinquishing Control
When you can’t sleep, don’t count sheep — read Scripture. Distinguish between God’s voice and the voice of fear. Worry takes a look at catastrophes and groans, “It’s all coming unraveled.” God says, Every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. — Romans 8:28 MSG Worry claims, “The world… The post Relinquishing Control appeared first on FaithGateway.

The Best Medicine
A happy heart is like good medicine. — Proverbs 17:22 ICB Whether you giggle, tee-hee, or guffaw, laughter is one language that everybody speaks. You don’t have to learn to laugh either. It’s a skill you’re born with. Babies start to laugh when they’re only about three months old — long before they learn to… The post The Best Medicine appeared first on FaithGateway.

Patience in Turbulence
I snapped. He raised his voice and snapped back. We gave each other squinty-eye looks. After all, we’ve been in close proximity, in tight quarters for over a week. We’ve been cooped up and trying to stay positive… We’ve been walking around the block, many times a day… I’ve been homeschooling the kids… Add all this to the constant influx of bad news…and… I’m not complaining. We are all just trying to make it, aren’t we? It is what it is. However, we can’t deny: it’s easy to get fed up and fired up at those we most love. Distance doesn’t always make a heart grow fonder; in many cases,…

Return To Edisto by Lin Stepp
The Rest Is Just Gravy Return To Edisto by Lin Stepp is a delightful, heart-warming contemporary Christian novel. It is the second book in the Edisto Trilogy but can be read as a stand-alone. Happy Valley by Lin Stepp
A Warm Welcome For All Happy Valley by Lin Stepp is a delightful contemporary Christian novel. It is part of the Mountain Home series but can be read as a stand-alone. I always adore Lin Stepp’s novels as they wrap around me like a cosy blanket on a cold day. The characters are kind and […]

“Pandemic Patronage” = Brilliant Idea
Home Library … for your Neighborhood? With libraries everywhere shutting their doors, we readers still crave something to read. Reading can offer legitimate ways to pass the time, take a break from the news headlines, and re-connect with people. If you have books on your shelves you’ve already read, consider loaning them to friends.* Perhaps you may be able to borrow some in return. *As of this writing, the NIH reports that the coronavirus can live for up to 24 hours on cardboard (longer on plastic/metal). To safely loan/share books, consider the following strategy: put books in a brown paper grocery bag and stick in garage/car/outside for a day. When…

Intend to Honor God in Your Home
Lessons I learned at home have shaped my life. Many of those principles were not taught with words; they were lived out in the context of daily routines. Looking back, I was the beneficiary of choices my parents made for themselves. I suspect none of us understood the full implications of what was unfolding in… The post Intend to Honor God in Your Home appeared first on FaithGateway.

The God of All Comfort
O Lord, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue You know it completely, O Lord…. Search… The post The God of All Comfort appeared first on FaithGateway.

A Meal
A GOD WHO IS WITH YOU IN YOUR HUNGER One thing Jesus did in the Eucharist was to connect, in a vivid and simple way, eating with obedience and worship. He joined earth with heaven, bread with manna, flesh with Spirit. He linked physical hunger with spiritual hunger. He reminded us that every bite is… The post A Meal appeared first on FaithGateway.
