The Creak Music
Still: Volume 3
Drawing on the melodies of time-honored hymns and favorite worship tracks, indie collective The Creak Music shines with their instrumental offering Still: Volume 3. Featuring the music talents of the Creak family of Seth Talley, Brad King, and David Leonard (formerly of All Sons & Daughters) alongside guests like cellist Cara Fox and Stu G (Delirious?), the album presents at ambient, atmospheric soundscape perfect for moments of private worship and praise.
Reminiscent of Carter Burwell’s use of hymns for the True Grit Soundtrack, the tracks found here use the melodic foundations of “It Is Well,” “How He Loves,” “Cornerstone” and the like and builds upon them, adding subtle yet poignant layers that allow the song to evolve. Those melodies anchor things for sure, as familiar strains of “Amazing Grace,” “Reckless Love,” or “In Christ Alone” inevitably stand out, but the layered percussive textures, acoustic tones, and emotive strings carry the songs forward. The tracks blend into a seamless tapestry of sound best taken in as a whole.
Quiet, contemplative, and sublimely beautiful, The Creak Music’s Still: Volume 3 is a worshipful work of art.
