Taste and See Week 4 — Savoring the Salt of the Earth
Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor the manure pile; it is thrown out. — Luke 14:34-35 NIV When salt is overpowered by the presence of other things, it loses its ability to influence. ~ Margaret Feinberg Can you… The post Taste and See Week 4 — Savoring the Salt of the Earth appeared first on FaithGateway.

Patsy Clairmont and Me
It was a dark and stormy night… No, it was a gloomy, rainy night… Ok, maybe just a dark night in a rental car driving on a winding road I’d never traveled before with another woman I had just met a few minutes ago. It was an adventure I had been looking forward to for several months. A trip to meet Patsy Clairmont at her home for a writing workshop. I’ve loved Patsy Clairmont since the early days when her speaking engagements were aired on Focus on the Family radio broadcasts. I’d read her books and seen her at many Women of Faith events. Recently, I had become one of…

Meet the Team: Janie
We’re taking some time and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the Redeemed Reader team. Today, Hayley (RR’s executive assistant) interviews our Editorial Advisor and Senior Staff writer, Janie B. Cheaney. What is your first reading memory? Are there some books you remember a parent reading aloud to you?I know my parents read to me —my mother, certainly— but the only thing I remember her reading specifically is the Bible. I started first grade in 1956 with Dick & Jane readers but don’t remember being especially excited about it because, well, Dick & Jane were NOT exciting. (Dr. Seuss was still just a few years in the future, hard as…

Traversing Unknown Road with the Lord
Traversing Unknown Road with the Lord Lk 5,17-26: One day Jesus was teaching and many Pharisees and teachers of the Law had come from every part of Galilee and Judea and even from Jerusalem. They were sitting there while the power of the Lord was at work to heal the sick. Then some men brought a paralyzed man who lay on his mat. They tried to enter the house to place him before Jesus, but they couldn’t find a way through the crowd. So they went up on the roof and, removing the tiles, they lowered him on his mat into the middle of the group, in front of Jesus.…

God’s Ultimate Blessing – Love, Bread, and Fish.
God’s Ultimate Blessing: Love, Bread, and Fish. Mk 6, 34-44: As Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He had compassion on them for they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began a long teaching session with them. It was now getting late, so His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a lonely place, and it is now late. You should send the people away and let them go to the farms and villages around here to buy themselves something to eat”. Jesus replied, “You yourselves give them something to eat”. They answered, “If we are to give them food, we must go and buy…

Best Thing I Heard Today: February 9, 2019
The newest EP from Jason Barrows is out and it’s loaded with great straightforward melodies, especially the opening track “Edge of My Heart.” Jason, who is the guitarist for Josh Garrels, has been making beautiful solo music for a while, largely in the vein of The War on Drugs, and this takes those hazy rock and roll sentiments and adds some Ryan Adams to the mix. “I don’t wanna live on the edge of my heart like God is a stranger,” he sings atop a killer mid-tempo groove perfect for the upcoming spring season. What Does It Mean to Be Spirit-Filled?
Imagine. You pull the door open a crack and peer into the church sanctuary. Near the back of the room, a young woman stands with her hands raised high and her eyes shut tight, singing with much enthusiasm. Closer to the front, an older lady sits in her seat singing quietly with her head bowed… The post What Does It Mean to Be Spirit-Filled? appeared first on FaithGateway.
