Humiliation
Recently I was having lunch with some friends at a shopping mall. As we got our food and sat down, one of my friends said that she wasn’t feeling well. After a few minutes she decided to go to the restroom. As she stood up, she started to pass out. She was able to lie down on the floor to avoid passing out, but the experience was very humiliating and embarrassing to her. She said later that she felt that people were staring at her and making guesses about what might be wrong with her. Was she drunk or high on drugs, was she having a heart attack? Humiliation can…

What Is Holding You Back?
I have a confession to make…I envy marathon runners! How do they have the stamina and the willpower to keep running for 26 long, grueling miles? What keeps them going when they are ready to give up? What do they think about over the course of those long miles? How do they have the gumption to sign up for another marathon when they are still recovering from sore muscles and blisters from the last marathon? As I have attended marathons (as a spectator of course!) and talked to marathon runners, I have gleaned some valuable insights from running that can be applied to this life that God has given us. …

Criticism…Ouch it Hurts!
How do you deal with a critical remark or comment? Do you walk away and forget about it or do you mull it over in your mind causing sleepless nights and a roller coaster of emotions? I have to admit that in the past I was a “muller”. I used to let criticism take charge of my thoughts for days, but I am learning in this area. Of course, when God wants to teach me a life lesson, He often gives me the opportunity to learn over and over until I get it. You guessed it…I have had plenty of negative comments thrown my way, but I am pleased to…

The Fall – A Perspective
I open my eyes and I see that I am in mid air, falling. I feel the air brushing past me and there is no ground beneath me. The gravity is powerful and I am falling at a great speed. Anxious, my arms are spread out reaching out for something, but all I feel is the air passing through my fingers. I know not where I am, how I got here, nor do I know when I will hit the ground. Minutes, hours and days pass, I am experiencing a perpetual fall. I feel the constant brushing of the air on my body. I am fully conscious, and I try…

The Author’s Mission: Gary Schmidt
One question every author gets, sometimes several times a day: Where do you get your ideas? I had the happy opportunity to sit in on a presentation by Gary Schmidt and chat with him later, and while I didn’t ask the question, I got loads of material for an answer. Speaking of questions: he began his presentation with the true story of creature-in-distress in San Francisco Bay. The distress call sent by a ship’s captain failed to mention the type of creature it was, so when three men from the Humane Society set out in their 8-foot rubber dinghy they were stunned to encounter a 40-foot whale! With determination, ingenuity,…

Best Thing I Heard Today: March 28, 2019
John Crist — A Deeper Conversation interview Those of you who know me or who follow this page on CCM know that I am a big fan of John Crist. I have always had a very healthy—perhaps even overly-developed—sense of humor. I think it is important to celebrate and find the humor in life. If we believe God created everything, then He certainly has an awesome sense of humor as well….right? But I digress. Today, I happened to find this extended interview with John from the Wally Show. It’s really worth the watch, not just because he is funny and they have fun together in this interview, but also because…

Worship Leader Laura Hackett Park to Release ‘Artist’
Nashville, TN (March 27, 2019) Kansas-City-based singer/songwriter and worship leader Laura Hackett Park was inspired by the greatest Artist of all time when writing her newest song, “Artist,” which is set to release April 5th. It could be said that embracing one’s God-given artistry is a powerful way to give praise back to Him. In responding to God’s calling to strive to be more like her Creator, “Artist” bears witness to Revelation 4:11 which says, “…for You created all things and for Your pleasure they exist and were created.” “There is something so healing and freeing about creating something and then choosing to sit back and enjoy it,” Laura says.…

Amanda Lindsey Cook ‘House on a Hill’ Review
Amanda Lindsey Cook House on a Hill (Bethel Music) Late last November, after wiping her Instagram profile clean and posting a puzzle of vague images, Bethel Music worship leader Amanda Lindsey Cook shared a picture of a handwritten letter explaining her year of absence from social media. “I had to go quiet for a while, without an announcement about going quiet… I may have some things to say in the coming year.” Indeed, she does. Her first solo album in four years, House on a Hill is a beautiful work of worship born in the silence and a celebration of God’s unfailing, ever-present love. You might know Cook best from…
